So here are some pics of the cottage that will become our home in May.
It’s North East facing, which, (in New Zealand), means that it gets all day sun.
At present it’s a holiday rental of my parents. And the garage has all of our furniture and junk stored in it! And the courtyard is full of dads wood and fishing gear.
The cottage from the driveway. The deck between it and the garage, (which is to the right of the photo), will be filled in with a covered roof and French doors to join the two buildings.
This extremely untidy area will be cleaned out and the fence continued so it becomes a sunny courtyard. We’ll add a small garden shed off to the right. The tilt-a-door will be removed and large bi-fold doors will go in so that whole end is glass. The side facing the cottage will have the wall removed so it opens into the cottage. Dad’s keen on adding a small swimming pool in the courtyard area too which sounds awesome.
The deck to the left of the house. We’ll add a covered in sun porch here with doors that open at each end and bi-fold doors and windows out over the garden so the whole thing is open in summer for the sea breeze, but a sun trap in winter. There will be a decent sized square of open deck left at each end as well.
Looking in approximately the same direction from inside the lounge. So these open bi-fold doors will lead into the covered sun porch eventually.
This will be baby’s room. It’s right next to ours. Baby will have their own ensuite lol.
Our room. Again with it’s own ensuite. It gets glorious morning sun and has French doors opening onto the deck, and a beautiful view. We’ll need to install some big wardrobes as there’s no storage.
The view from our bed – except I was standing up obviously.
More scenery from the front deck – which will become the sun porch.
Isn’t it glorious!! We can’t wait to get stuck into the renovations with my clever mum and dad who made it as lovely as it is already. Plus I’ll have wall space for some of my beautiful art that’s been in storage, our own lovely furniture etc. Bliss.

Just repeating what everyone else has said. WHAT A VIEW. Love all of the openness of it. Can’t wait for you to share the big reveal.

Yes and all that openess equals lots of sunshine. (Also lots of wild wind in our big storms! The roof has never blown off but the front windows blew in once.)

That will be a while! End of May probably – in time for the baby but likely to be only just lol.

Looks beautiful. Would be great to see some ‘after’ pictures once the changes have been made.
You will really appreciate having a bathroom beside the nursery, especially if you are going to use cloth nappies.
pepibebe said:
Yeah we will be using cloth 🙂

Oh my, that is just gorgeous. I want to rent from your papa! I bet you get a lovely breeze. Must smell amazing. Do you hear sea gulls? What a wonderful place to raise a baby. Very exciting.

Yes there is a lovely breeze there, just not in the little shack we are currently living in as it is tucked down low at the base of a hill. Yes we do hear sea gulls 🙂
